Pavement Design, Aggregate Strain Criterion and Rut Depth Prediction

A multi-stage RLTT provides a mathematical model that relates stresses and strains to permanent deformation.  This model is very powerful and with the aid of a finite element model enables the rut depth to be predicted within the material and develop a material specific strain criterion for the aggregate and subgrade layers that can be used in CIRCLY using the Austroads Pavement Design Procedures.  Rut depth and strain criterion information are usually included in RLTT test report by PaveSpec Ltd as part of the testing service.  For further information please click here to download the Basecourse Strain Criterion report.

Rut depth can also be predicted for any custom pavement design cross-section and loading.  For example airports and ports have significantly higher tyre stresses than road pavements and RLTT with associated rut depth modelling will enable the materials to be check if they have the necessary shear strength.
